We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance and advisory services for a growing advisory firm serving businesses, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals in Hawaii. This role is responsible for managing and reviewing complex tax returns, providing proactive planning advice, and serving as a key client relationship manager. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with a consultative mindset and the ability to lead and mentor a team in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns for:
- Partnerships, S-Corporations, and C-Corporations
- Multi-entity and closely held businesses
- High-net-worth individuals and family groups
- Oversee Hawaii-specific tax compliance, including:
- Hawaii income and general excise tax (GET)
- Apportionment and sourcing considerations
- Multistate filings where applicable
- Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services, including:
- Entity structuring and restructuring
- Estimated tax planning and cash flow optimization
- SALT considerations and nexus analysis
- Serve as primary point of contact for assigned clients
- Review workpapers and returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Manage engagement timelines and ensure deadlines are met
- Lead, mentor, and develop senior and staff accountants
- Collaborate with advisory, accounting, and client service teams
- Assist with state and federal tax notices, audits, and examinations
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s in Taxation preferred)
- CPA license required or in progress
- 5–8+ years of public accounting tax experience
- Experience with Hawaii tax compliance strongly preferred
- Strong background in business and individual tax returns
- Prior experience reviewing returns and managing engagements
- Excellent communication, organization, and client-service skills
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in tax preparation and compliance software (CCH Axcess, UltraTax, ProSystem fx, or similar)
- Working knowledge of tax research tools (Checkpoint, CCH, BNA)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
