Position Overview

The Accounting Advisory Market Leader is a senior executive responsible for driving market growth, leading client delivery, and expanding the firm’s footprint within a defined region or industry vertical. This leader combines deep technical accounting expertise with proven team-building, business development, and operational leadership skills. The ideal candidate is a CPA with 15+ years of progressive experience, including managing controllers or accounting leaders, and has extensive exposure to complex accounting environments.

This role will serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives, guide high-impact client engagements, and spearhead market strategy while developing a high-performing advisory team.

Key Responsibilities

Market Leadership & Growth

  • Develop and execute the market strategy, including revenue goals, client acquisition, service expansion, and brand visibility.
  • Build and maintain strong executive-level relationships with clients, prospects, and referral partners.
  • Lead business development efforts, including proposal development, solution design, and contract negotiations.
  • Identify market trends and create service offerings to address emerging client needs.

Client Engagement & Technical Advisory

  • Serve as the senior technical advisor on complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, consolidations, equity instruments, and M&A transactions.
  • Oversee high-profile advisory projects and ensure exceptional client experience across all engagements.
  • Provide strategic guidance to CFOs, controllers, and finance leaders across diverse industries.
  • Review and approve technical accounting deliverables, including memos, policies, and financial reporting analyses.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting advisory professionals, including managers, controllers, and technical specialists.
  • Oversee staffing, resource planning, and performance management for the market.
  • Build a culture centered on excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Support recruiting efforts to grow the advisory team and strengthen the market’s capabilities.

Operational & Practice Management

  • Manage P&L responsibilities for the market, including forecasting, budgeting, and margin optimization.
  • Ensure consistent delivery quality, standardized methodologies, and operational efficiency across all engagements.
  • Collaborate with national or regional leadership on strategic initiatives, service line alignment, and long-term planning.
  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and innovation within the advisory practice.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in accounting, advisory, or controllership roles.
  • Proven experience having controllers, managers, or senior accounting leaders reporting directly to you.
  • Significant background in technical accounting and complex transactions.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to communicate confidently with C-suite executives.
  • Demonstrated business development success, including generating new revenue and expanding client relationships.
  • Experience in a professional services or advisory environment strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in financial systems, ERP platforms, and process improvement methodologies.

  • Big 4 or large national accounting firm experience.

  • Established regional network with CFOs, controllers, and financial leaders.
