We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and manage federal, state, and local tax compliance and advisory services for a diverse client base in the Los Angeles market. This role will oversee the preparation and review of complex tax returns, provide strategic tax planning, and serve as a trusted advisor to closely held businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and multi-entity organizations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a client-service mindset, with hands-on experience in California and multistate taxation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns for:
- C-Corporations, S-Corporations, and Partnerships
- Multi-state and California-based entities
- High-net-worth individuals and business owners
- Ensure compliance with IRS, FTB, CDTFA, and local jurisdiction requirements
- Research and interpret complex tax issues related to:
- California nexus and apportionment
- SALT considerations
- Entity structuring and restructuring
- M&A and transaction support
- Provide proactive tax planning and consulting to minimize tax exposure
- Serve as primary client contact, building strong advisory relationships
- Lead, mentor, and develop staff and senior accountants
- Review workpapers and returns to ensure technical accuracy and timeliness
- Manage multiple engagements and deadlines during peak filing seasons
- Coordinate with audit, advisory, and bookkeeping teams as needed
- Assist with IRS and state audits, notices, and examinations
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s in Taxation a plus)
- CPA license required (active or in good standing)
- 5–8+ years of public accounting tax experience
- Strong experience with California tax compliance and multistate filings
- Prior experience reviewing complex business returns
- Proven ability to manage and develop staff
- Strong communication, organization, and client management skills
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, or similar)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience with tax research tools (Checkpoint, BNA, CCH)
