Position Summary:

The Senior Purchasing Manager – Packaging is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the packaging procurement process. This includes developing and implementing procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of packaging materials. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in packaging procurement within the consumer goods industry and a strong background in strategic sourcing and supplier management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Sourcing and Procurement:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive packaging procurement strategies aligned with business objectives.
    • Lead the sourcing process, including identifying potential suppliers, conducting RFPs/RFQs, and evaluating proposals.
    • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure the best terms and conditions.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key packaging suppliers.
    • Monitor supplier performance, conduct regular reviews, and implement improvement plans as necessary.
    • Ensure suppliers meet quality, cost, delivery, and sustainability standards.
  • Cost Management:
    • Develop and manage packaging procurement budgets.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement initiatives to reduce total cost of ownership.
    • Analyze market trends and provide insights to optimize packaging spend.
  • Collaboration and Cross-Functional Leadership:
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including product development, marketing, and supply chain teams, to understand packaging requirements and deliver solutions.
    • Lead cross-functional teams in packaging projects, ensuring alignment and effective execution.
    • Act as a liaison between suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Compliance and Sustainability:
    • Ensure all packaging materials comply with relevant regulations and company standards.
    • Promote sustainable packaging practices and work towards achieving company sustainability goals.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends and innovations in packaging materials and technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field. MBA or related advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in procurement, with at least 5 years focused on packaging within the consumer goods industry.
  • Proven track record of successful supplier management and contract negotiation.
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, processes, and market dynamics.
  • Excellent analytical,

problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools, such as SAP Ariba, Oracle, or similar platforms.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cost savings and improve procurement processes.
  • Commitment to sustainability and knowledge of sustainable packaging practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or C.P.M. (Certified Purchasing Manager).
  • Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of international packaging suppliers and global sourcing strategies.
