Job Title: Senior Cost Accountant

Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Accounting and Analysis:
- Maintain and update the cost accounting system, ensuring accurate recording of production costs, labor, and materials.
- Analyze cost variances, identifying the root causes of discrepancies and providing actionable recommendations to management.
- Prepare detailed cost analysis reports, including standard costs, actual costs, and variance analysis, to support operational and financial decision-making.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with operations, production, and finance teams to develop and manage the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgeted costs, providing insights and recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements.
- Assist in the preparation of financial projections, cash flow analysis, and long-term financial planning.
- Inventory Management:
- Oversee the accuracy of inventory valuation, including the costing of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Conduct periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile variances, ensuring the integrity of inventory records.
- Analyze and report on inventory obsolescence, slow-moving inventory, and other factors affecting inventory valuation.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to cost accounting, including cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis, gross margin analysis, and production efficiency metrics.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies in all cost-related financial reporting.
- Provide detailed financial analysis to support external audits and internal management reviews.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes and systems, driving efficiencies and enhancing the accuracy of cost data.
- Implement best practices in cost accounting and inventory management, ensuring consistency and reliability in financial reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production processes, reduce waste, and improve overall cost efficiency.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Ensure that all cost accounting practices adhere to internal controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the development and implementation of internal controls related to cost accounting and inventory management.
- Assist in the preparation and documentation of cost accounting procedures and policies.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and support to junior cost accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Mentor and train team members on cost accounting principles, processes, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory management.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
