The Project Estimator is responsible for the successful completion of estimates from start to finish. Must have experience with heavy/civil/site work estimating as well as hands on experience with systems including HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.
- Responsible for reviewing and incorporating all client correspondence throughout the bid process.
- Able to accurately perform all required take offs necessary to complete an estimate as well as review all takeoff data provided by team members for accuracy and completeness.
- Able to identify make it or break it material and scope items and work with Purchasing to procure the best vendor.
- Preparation of conceptual estimates as well as estimates from partially designed documents.
- Able to document, organize, understand and interpret complex streams of information and paperwork including bid forms, plans, specifications, scopes of work, geotechnical reports, environmental reports, project schedules and other data common to the heavy / civil construction industry.
- Communicate effectively with clients during the bidding process.
- Attend client meetings as necessary for pre-bid and post-bid scope analysis.
- Able to adhere to short time frame deadlines and schedules.
- Able to solicit, analyze and review subcontractor and vendor’s price quotes for conformity to the Bid Documents.
- Share information about reliable sub-contractor and suppliers with purchasing and operations team members.
- Able to take the lead role in the preparation of estimates and the supervision of team estimators when a team estimating approach is implemented.
- Organize, coordinate and perform project turnovers for new projects.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- A degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of heavy / civil / site work estimating experience. Field experience preferred.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficient in the use of Heavy Bid estimating software from start to finish including review of estimating team members input for thoroughness and accuracy.
- Proficient in the use of area take off systems.
- Excellent relationship builder; able to demonstrate a high level of tact, discretion and diplomacy with all internal and external customers. Must also demonstrate the ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information
